Founder & Creator of HeartSpace
Darren John Smith is the Founder and Creator of HeartSpace.
He spent his early career designing technology for people, when the UX industry was in its infancy — a Master's in Human-Computer Interaction and Ergonomics, then seven years as a product designer and founder in London's startup scene.
At 29 he left, and spent the next twelve years living in conscious communities in Ubud and Koh Phangan — a long healing journey of his own, and years of learning to hold space for other people on theirs.
Along the way he trained in the things that let a person hold a room: group facilitation and leadership, somatic trauma release, bodywork and energy healing, alongside fifteen years of his own meditation practice. He still works one to one with clients who wish to move beyond their mental health and emotional wellbeing challenges.
HeartSpace grew out of that work, and out of a plain love of meeting people. Give two people a little structure and enough permission, and he has watched the same thing happen again and again: the shoulders drop, the breath slows, and something honest arrives. He is building HeartSpace so that no longer takes a retreat, a workshop or a plane ticket — just an evening, and someone on the other end of it.
It is also why he thinks the timing matters. As AI takes over more and more of the thinking, he sees the invitation coming back to the body and the heart — to the part of being human that was never going to be computed. HeartSpace is built for that world: not another feed to consume, but a room to be met in.
The best facilitators he has sat with never taught and never instructed. They held space, and let something true reveal itself. That is the whole design brief for HeartSpace.
It is built on the line from Ram Dass he has carried for years: "Quiet the mind, open the heart."
“It feels like my whole life has led to this. I’m just giving birth.”
